The White House said it is planning new import tariffs on furniture, kitchen, and bathroom cabinets coming into the United States after October 1. The tariff levels suggested in the announcement are 50% on kitchen cabinets and bathroom vanities, and the upholstered furniture suggested level is 25%.
The tariff announcement included pharmaceutical products. The September 25 announcement was greeted with some uncertainty because similar announcements have generally been followed by changes in the tariff percentages.
The U. S. imported more than $25 billion in furniture in 2024. More than half of the imported furniture came from China and Vietnam, according to the Associated Press.
