State Invests $1 Million in Strategic Plan for Wisconsin Forests

Learn how a new statewide initiative aims to guide the future of Wisconsin forestry.

A two-year Wisconsin effort to “develop a strategic plan and roadmap” on behalf of healthy forests and a resilient and competitive forest products industry will be completed by December, 2027, according to an announcement from the group named Wisconsin Forests FIRST.

The group was funded with $1 million from the state’s forestry account, had bipartisan support in the legislature, and was approved by Governor Tony Evers.

The funding will be administered by the Great Lakes Timber Professionals Association and the Wisconsin Paper Council. Other groups engaged in leadership of the effort will be the Forestry Division of the Wisconsin DNR and the Wisconsin Council on Forestry, which will communicate developments on its website: councilonforestry.wi.gov
