Mass Timber May Gain Giant Ally in Amazon
Read Why Amazon Considers Mass Timber for Future Distribution Centers...
A 2025 study commissioned by Amazon suggests that the huge digital retailer may consider incorporating more mass timber in the construction of new distribution centers and warehouses.
Sustainable Northwest, a non-profit that Amazon partnered with in the study focused on “forest resilience”, said that the study was intended to “reimagine the materials used in their vast network of warehouses in a way that aligns with the company’s sustainability commitments, supports forest health, and drives change across the building industry.”
Amazon’s wide construction footprint could drive increased demand for mass timber products. A shift by Amazon could cause it to quickly become one of the largest single buyers of mass timber products and accelerate demand, according to Sustainable Northwest, a 30-year-old non-profit organization that partnered in the report.
Sustainable Northwest has described its forestry mission as believing in“...healthy, resilient forests supporting thriving communities. That’s why we partner with rural and Tribal communities to develop locally-led solutions that advance forest health and resiliency.
