Video: Identify a destructive tree root disease

The DNR recently released the informational video

The Wisconsin DNR has released an informational video to help landowners identify and deal with a form of root rot that is present across the state. New guidelines were made available in 2019 and are spelled out on the You Tube video, which is available at https://youtu.be/yQFj-LkdZdY.

Heterobasidion root disease (HRD) is considered one of the most destructive diseases of conifers in the northern parts of the world, according to the DNR. The fungus derived disease was first found in the state in 1993. Prevention of HRD (which is most commonly found in plantations of conifers like red pine) is key, the DNR said, as it is difficult to treat and control.
