Officials remind forest landowners of grant deadline

Grants can be for up to 75% of approved projects

National Conservation Resources Service officials are reminding forest landowners that the deadline to apply for 2022 grants from its EQIP program is November 19. NCRS is part of the U.S. Department of Agriculture. It administers the Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP).

“The Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP) provides financial and technical assistance to agricultural producers and non-industrial forest managers to address natural resource concerns and deliver environmental benefits such as improved water and air quality, conserved ground and surface water, increased soil health and reduced soil erosion and sedimentation, improved or created wildlife habitat, and mitigation against drought and increasing weather volatility.” according to the USDA.

The program can make grants for up to 75% of approved projects. Landowners are urged to reach out to their local USDA Service Center to begin the application process. You can find your local USDA Service Center here:

National priorities for the EQIP program applicable to forest land include:

“Conservation of ground and surface water resources.”

“Improvement of wildlife habitat.”

“Biological carbon storage and sequestration”.
