The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) conducts an annual stand exam as part of its forest management program.

The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) conducts an annual stand exam as part of its forest management program. The stand exam is an evaluation of forested land to determine the composition, structure, and health of forest stands. The stand exam is an important tool used to monitor forest health and to make better informed decisions about forest harvesting and regeneration.

If you have questions or concerns about specific stands or species on Minnesota public forests, you can comment on the management practices through the Annual Stand Exam List. The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources is inviting comments by March 16 on the list of stands to be examined in their fiscal year (July 1 - June 30).

There are suggested prescriptions (including some harvests) on the stand list. You can find full information, including how you can comment to the DNR, HERE: Annual Stand Exam List webpage.
